Yes I guess that would have looked good but I anticipate a lot of working coping that cut

Anyway I did it using the suggested method. Pics below

Skimming the face of the "fat part" on the table saw as suggested and then cleanup with a rasp/file.

Installed baseboard (actually not installed yet - just test fitted)

I don't like it, do over!

Coping ain't that hard, bet you could cope it with a bandsaw easily, just back cut it a tad.

Well this is my first floor and baseboard project - I also installed some maple plywood wainscot on the stairs with base cap molding as trim. I tried to cope one of the joints and it took forever - finally the blade snapped. Maybe that fake wood stuff is easier but this wood is tough. I had enough after that one joint and elected to miter.

I suppose one could try coping on the bandsaw but it would be hard to control a long piece I think.

Anyone here use a bandsaw for coping?

Would be nice if they made a power tool for coping. Can you use something like a Dremmel, Fein Multimaster or similar tool?

I think what you did looks good.

There is a jig you can use with a jigsaw, but I've never used it. Here is one but this one is for crown molding: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8928326903137161860#

Thats a neat jig. But I just tough it out with a hand coping saw. I can do one in about a minute in really hardwoods.

Thanks for the info on the jig. I may install some crown molding sometime in the future so this may come in useful for that.

btw I'm also in San Diego.
