I have completed about half my floating installation and I am moving on to the section that includes the kitchen. There is an is an island and I will have to wrap around it and rejoin the floor up on the far side. I am a bit paranoid that I might get there and my planks won't be running parallel to each other and it will look like crap. Is there a trick to getting this right?

Removing and re-installing the island is not an option. It has a granite countertop and I fear tearing it off the concrete would destroy the cabinet.

Thanks,

--David

I usually say a lot of prayers first.

You can snap a few lines on each side like a certain amount of rows and make sure you stay on those lines, make a gap if you really get off track. Usually islands are no big deal but wrapping around a whole kitchen or room is where it really gets scary. Pencil lines with a straight edge is better than a chalk line.

These new floating floors are generally very accurately milled, in part because of the nature of the locking mechanism. I dont forsee you having too much difficulty with reconnecting, unless it is a huge island.

Oh yea he said floating huh? Clcik or glue should be no problem but I would be using strap clamps for T&G glue or even gluedown.

Thanks guys. The planks are T&G glue and appear to be perfectly milled. It is a small island, so the prays should be enough.

I have a set of clamps. I lay down about four rows of planks and then clamp a section, tape with blue tape, then leap frog the clamps down the course. Should I be clamping every row?

Thanks,

You can strap clamp numerous rows at a time, as long as the adhesive is fresh & doesn't start setting on you prior to clamping.
I always complete the "tie in" straping numerous rows as opposed to strapping a couple rows at the end, this gives more room for adjustment if needed.
