I have a 40 yr. old house that has 5/16"x2" in slat red oak flooring throughout except for one 25'x15' room. I want to install the exact same type flooring in this room to keep the house consistent rather than place t&g or other newer products. I have been told to lay out the entire floor with a random stagger pattern and then surface nail the floor all at once. Is this correct? Any other suggetions? For example, type of nailer and appropriate nails?
Thanks, TAM

I'll bite since no one else will.

First time I saw one of those in the bay area I thought WTF??? What idiot did that LOL

Never done one but not sure how you would keep it tight if you had the whole floor laid out, maybe four or five rows at a time, bang them in tight and follow a line to keep straight.

Not exactly sure how it is racked and held tight but I did see a demonstration at a flooring school several years ago, the nailer was called a Cavanaugh nailer and it had a holding bin for the nails and as you struck it they shook there way into the feeder tube. They naiked several rows together but I do not recall how they held them tight.
