During the first install/finish the installers never sealed off HVAC vents at any point in the process so we noticed our HVAC vent filters were literally clogged to the point where the AC couldnt cool because of the amount of dust. I replaced the filters and vacummed out as much as I could. The installers said they tried to vacuum out the vents as well.

So when they went to redo (sand and finish) the floors due to mistakes they made I decided to make vent covers and placed them at each vent for them to use. I found today that they never used them so we have moved into the house and I found that our HVAC tubes have alot of dust in them. Some vents even have a coating of dust.

So my two questions are. At what point in the site finished install process should the HVAC have been either turned off or the vents and or intakes have been sealed? With this information I can discuss this with the installer.

What type of duct cleaning service should we get?

Thanks for any suggestions!

its called a shop vac. simple and effective alls you need is one with a longer hose go around and vac them out. I dont know of any installers/finishers that cover supply vents unless requested (they blow out so only a small amount of duat usually gets down there and blows back out when the system kicks back on.) on the return vent the filter will need to be changed but it also should have done its job and caught most of the dust.

Are they using a dustless system or not?
