I am very excited! The new flooring is coming this week (the wood is already in my house, actually, and will be installed this coming week).

My questions:

1. Leaving people you don't know unattended in your house - they are nailing down the floor (pre-engineered). I assume this is going to be pretty noisy. Do most people stay in the house or leave when this is being done? I'm not really keen on having workers in my house that I don't know, but if it's so loud and noisy that I need to leave, then I guess I will have to find a way to deal with it. Do most people NOT have a problem with having someone in their houses that they don't know unattended? Am I being unreasonable to NOT want to do that?

2. The installers will move all of the furniture, I just have to pack up breakables, knick-knacks, etc. Does this mean I should also take stuff out of drawers or will they move the furniture with the drawers in place?

3. Pets - I have three indoor cats that I do NOT want to get out. since the wood is already inside, how often should the workers be coming and going throughout the doors? I know with the refinishers, they were in and out a lot. Would there be reasons for them to come in and out a lot?? Just trying to figure out what to do with my pets.

Thanks for any suggestions and input.

1) That's all depends on how you feel. I can tell you what usually happens with me...People are usually there the first day, then they feel comfortable and take off. Unless it's a customer that wants to constantly talk to me, make friends, and drive me crazy, while I'm trying to work :x

2) I move furniture with drawers in place. Unless it's rediculous heavy,( like full of books or albums or similar). Also be aware that some furniture is not built very solid or weak, if it's full of stuff there may be damage when moving. I would move any breakables inside drawers or cabinets.

3) The installers will be in and out all day, best to find a place for the pets.

Thank you, Howard! Very good suggestions and very helpful to me! Also, I did check out your website regarding the stairs and what to do with them. I felt more prepared talking to my flooring guy :)) I love your website, too, BTW. Thank you so much for the feedback!

I put together something a few years ago on the subject. Probably could add more information.

May help...
