Hope this is appropriate...

I am soliciting bids for a quality installer to install 1200SF of #1 WO diagonally with a 4 1/2" amer cherry border around perimeter. The finish will be a light stain with Traffic.

If you would be interested in bidding this job (my home), please pm me with a contact #.

Regards,

_Terry

unfortunatley there are alot of hacks in chicago. There are a handull of great companies though. You could try Apex Wood Floors, Phenominal work, but very pricey

To produce "phenominal" work, you must spend time on the job, lots of time making every detail perfect. Most people don't want to pay for perfect nor do they have the patience to allow the craftsmen the time to produce perfect. This wasn't always the case. See this floor?
Story has it that Sarah Winchester hired one guy to build this floor and he worked on it for a whole year. Customers today get all excited when you say it's gonna take a couple of weeks.Image

It was there. Let's see if I can get it posted again.

This photo isn't nearly as detailed as the original but you can see it's basically a square parquet installed on a diagonal with an extremely complex border. Of course back in the 1880's, everything was cut with hand saws and hand nailed. Still, one guy worked on this room for a whole year! The message is how different things are today. Everyone is in such a hurry. What's the term?
Git 'er done! Like, yesterday.

Quick Update:

I ended up laying the hardwood myself, and contracting out the sand/finish. WO was layed @ 45, with WO & jatoba border. Looks very nice, but in retrospect, wish I had offset the border further out into the field.

I am mostly satisfied with the finish work, which consisted of drum sanding, much edging and scraping, followed by one rolled coat bonaseal, and two rolled coats of MEGA with a screen between each coat.

The MEGA is NOT holding up to my dog, and I'm not sure what my options are there (1 coat Traffic? Acceptance?).

Total Cost for 1400SF: $7000 + way too much of my time. (Stick to programming, Terry)

Thanks to all the professionals who collaborate on this board -- very cool indeed.

_Terry

Mega isn't a very durable finish. Contractor's use it because it's an inexpensive waterbased finish. Bona Traffic is twice the cost but easily twice as durable. Have your floors PROFESSIONALY recoated with Traffic.

+1

and keep the dogs off it for the full curing time, I did a house in traffic recently kept everone off it (shoes furnature dogs etc.) for the full week to allow it to cure. The finish is holding up amazingly, even given the 3 large german sheppards, and the 6 rambounctious kids who feel the house is a zoo LOL
