I recently installed 5" T&G Heart Pine in my home. During the process, there were a number of planks that had some level of curvature and the pneumatic nailer wasn't enough to reliably set the plank properly. I'm looking for some input from experienced installers regarding any tools they they use to install planks that have curvature. Are there any installation tools for this available for purchase?

Thanks!
Ralph

Do you mean bowing, warping or a bannana board

I believe I meant banana board. What I did was use a scrap piece of wood, drilled some holes in it, screwed it to the floor, then used a pry bar to pull into place before nailing it. It worked like a charm but it added a lot of installation time.

Do you really want to force a board into place? I'd think it would continue to pull in the wrong direction and might cause problems.

I avoided it for a while but there just too many planks that were like that. At most I had to move them 1/4 or so. Any that were real bad I just avoided altogether for that reason. I just wasn't sure if this was a common issue, especially for wider boards.

Not really uncommon on long planks. Twisted planks you really don't want to use. I use the bananna for cuts. But if there's to many I pull out my cepco Quickjack.
I got it on amazon.com

Well most guys use a screwdriver or awl and drive it into the underlayment but if you have a wide long plank that can be a real hassle and might not get it as tight as the QuickJack. Don't forget to throw in a couple more fasteners in those areas. But be careful not to split the tongue.

Also can be used as a battering ram as it's quite heavy.

Good to know, Steve! I had been thinking of designing a tool for this purpose but the idea I had would not have been as easy and quick to use as this.
