Great forum. I would appreciate your thoughts on the installation I am planning. My location in Louisana (hot, humid, wet) and the slab is above grade, no drainage issues.

I plan to install 1600 sq ft 1/2" solid unfinished quartersawn red oak over concrete. I am would like the floor to feel like a "real" solid floor over a wood frame subfloor while minimizing the height required. By that I mean you can feel a little flex on the floor and some sound. So I am thinking about installing the a subfloor as follows:

1. Seal concrete (penetrating sealer or surface sealer ?)
2. 2" x 1/8" x 16" OC plastic sleepers fastened with bostik adhesive (high density polyethylene, good strength properties)
3. 6 mil polyethylene
4. 5/8" plywood cut in 32" & 16" strips with adhesive between plywood and sleepers
5. Tapcon screws attaching the plywood through the plastic sleepers into the concrete
6) 3 coat Bona OMU

A couple of questions:

a) Should I use TG plywood or is expansion a concern ?
b)Could I use a thinner plywood with shorter staples and adhesive to fasten the wood to the plywood.
c) Other ideas ?

I looked at engineered. I did find on outfit (floorlayers) that would custom make the flooring but could not provide samples of their work and a complete glue down is a little scary.

The "bounce" one feels over a raised wood subfloor cannot be duplicated very well over a slab unless you go to a sports floor type installation. Those have special rubber pucks on the bottoms of the sleepers and subfloors that allow the floor to have some "give" and "flex" in the floor. This is what I would recommend. Here is one manufacturer where you can get more details. http://www.actionfloors.com/floorsystemsandpads.html
