We have installed new hardwood floors last month. It's kinda a long story. First the hardwood flooring were delivered and acclimated for about 72 hours. On the 1st day of the installation - the installers found that most of the hardwood flooring were defective (height and gap issues - for example - 2 planks would not be able to align with each other - it would either create a hugh gap on th side or a bump on the edges where end of 2 planks meet).

So we had to get a 2nd batch of hardwoord flooring were delivered and acclimated for 48 hours. This time - as per the installers - quality was much better. However, after the installation - my husband already noticed there is a bump in one of our rooms - the door would get stuck if we try to open it all the way! I'm not too concern about the gaps on the longer side of the wood - i understand hardwood flooring cannot be perfect. However, I'm really concern about the edges that are sticking up - even a swiffer could easily damage and might chips the hardwood floor. And I have seen some chipped ones already! When I called the installer (there is one year installation warranty on installation) they suggested me to wait until Mid august to allow the hardwood floor to expand due to the summer heat and thye will return to fix.

Could you advise if this is due a bad installation/quality of product? We have spent a considerable amount of time and money and just wanted to make sure this is done properly within the warranty period. Thanks!

Hard to say without pics. I will tell you this, installation constitutes acceptance, which basically means the installer should have stopped on not installed the second batch if the quality was not there, there is no chance a manufacture will do anything about it now. A few chipped ends are pretty common and should be easily repaired with a color matching filler. Not sure about the bump in the floor, you did raise the height of the floor, sometimes the bottoms of doors will have to be cut to accommodate the new height of the floor.

It would also be interesting what is directly below the room with the "hump".

Did they furnish the materials or did you? did you provide enough for them to discard defective materials?

If you supplied it, then by my policies, I would honor any material related concern..and that would be spelled out in writing before I did the job..

As for your concern, if the boards have "overwood" issues...lips on sides f boards..this is certainly a milling issue which is material related.

the hump is either a subfloor/structural issue or possibly the floor may be buckling due expansion and enough expansion space
given..this would be an installation issue which he should honor..

The leveling or lack of in the subfloor would be an installation issue if it was discussed ot be corrected..if it install as is or into existing conditions..then there is no fault..

In the future, I would allow any contractor, regardless of the project you undertake, to furnish their own materials so you have one source to address concerns and warranty with..now you will have to chase your tail..
