I have been installing 3/4" thick, 3 1/14" wide Bruce pre finished hardwood floors in my house. I started a year ago and I go room by room whenever I get the time and motivation. I completed the main floor, then I started on the upper level. I did the master bedroom and finished that a while back. I just got motivated again and decided I'd carry the flooring out of the master into the hallway, from the hallway I can go staright into my other bedrooms. So in effect the entire upstairs will be one continuous floor (the bathrooms are tile). So I got a stair nose piece for the top of the stairway, and I laid out the floor back to the bedroom, and it was almost a perfect fit. But it was 1/4" short. So I was trying to figure out the best solution. I thought I'd look into seeing if they made a 3/4" by 3 1/2" piece, this piece could start out at the bedroom enterance to the hallway. If they do not make a 3 1/2" piece, then I thought I could rip 2 pieces each 1 3/4" wide and glue them down at the bedroom enterance (the door closed would cover the area). This is the only issue to finishing up the entire upstairs. I didn't want to use any moldings at the door area. I like the effect of one continuous floor. So I just thought I'd see if anyone has any other ideas or options I could do. Thanks

doubt you worked it out to a perfect 1/4" ..after you nail it you eill know for sure.

anyway...just rip down the difference if trim wont cover.

if you are 1/4" or 1/2'..make a rip and glue it to the full piece...its along the wall..never to be seen..if its in the doorway...then you started the room off wrong.

I think he's saying it's 1/4" from the nosing, not the wall. If that is the case you can get different size nosings from different manufacturers or you could get an unfinished one and finish it yourself. You won't find the exact size you need so buy one wider and cut it down.

not sure of i understand it right, but if i do..

start from the nosing and notch thru the door way...run a chalk line down off this line..run your next course with the even with the chalk line.

install this course ll the way down to far wall..install next 2 courses, then back fill in with a rip..

would be better if you can post a pic of your problem
