Hi,

I'm planning on installing a floating floor in my dining room and my connecting entry hall way. I have already pulled up the carpet in the dining room, but the entry way has parquet flooring, ewww. My question is can I leave the parquet flooring without pulling up all those little blocks and install a floating floor with quietwalk over the top of it? Also, if I leave the parquet flooring it looks like I'll be off 1/4" between the dining room and the entry way. Should I just put down another layer of underlayment to make up the difference in th 1/4" floor height? If I have to pull up the parquet anyone have any good tricks for easy removal?

Thanks!!

You can leave the Parquet and float over it if it is not glued over concrete, then it would need to come up regardless. If it is down securely It would be easier on you to add the underlayment than to scrape it off of plywood or OSB.

I know more about this now than I ever wanted to. My plan was to shore up the rest of the floor to the level of my parquet, and go over it all. My wife convinced me that it was a waste of money to put an extra 1/4" of plywood over the whole house just to avoid pulling up the parquet. I should have stuck to my guns!

The method I used with greatest effect for pulling the floor was an air chisel. I removed 80 square feet and it took about 10 hours. I will also have to replace the subfloor there, as it was damaged beyond repair.

Hi,
I'm guessing your parquet was glued directly to a wood subfloor. This is always a bad idea, as your finding out. I always recommended installers put in an underlayment prior to gluing down any flooring because if that flooring needs to be removed or repaired, the subfloors will not be damaged in the process. I'm sorry you are finding out the hard way :(

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the responses. I've talked to several people and everybody seems to think that the best and easiest way is to go right on top of the parquet flooring. I actually do have underlayment between my subfloor and my parquet, so technically I could pull up that whole layer with the parquet. I think I'm just going to get the 1/4" plywood and make up the difference in the dining room where I'm off in height. What a great forum to get all the answers about flooring!!
