Hi, Got some Mannington Hickory 1/2 inch thick/5 inch wide plank for install over some ongrade concrete. Since it will go directly to the concrete and be gluedown should moisture retarder go first? Or is a bostics mvp glue alone enough to retard moisture.

I thought since the wood was engineered I would not need a moisture retarder at all.

Do you mean is Bostiks glue enough? Because I don’t think Bostiks MVP is glue. I think its moister barrier. Have you had your on grade concrete tested for moister? You may not need Bostiks MVP…but probably wouldn’t hurt as an added protection/insurance.

MVP is not an adhesive. It is Bostiks Moisture Vapor Protection(MVP). It is applied and let dry before the adhesive is applied.

There is still a limit to the amount of moisture vapors emitting from the concrete, for engineered. An engineered will live to almost 5# per 1000sq.ft. where a solid, you better be way under 3# per 1000 sq.ft emitting from the concrete.

Test the concrete for excessive moisture vapor emissions.
