So...I've got this 1960s duplex that has hardwood floors in it...allowed a tenant to get satellite dish setup installed if done in a "professional manner", evidently i wasn't clear enough in the level of professionalism because the installer drilled several 1" holes in the hardwood through the place. Granted, they were covered with carpet, but still...

Anywho, I was hoping somebody with more experience than me (little to none) would tell me if i can just plug these holes with a big plug, or if they should be replaced? And...where i might go about finding only a few planks of hardwood flooring that match my floor?

I appreciate any help! Thanks!

(oh yeah, i'm going to refinish the floors)

drill the holes all to the same size get some hardwood dowel that fit's and plug with that. You can make the grain run the same direction a little cutting and some sanding your set. The typical person will probably never see them especially if you are refinishing them anyway.

You can't use a dowel, the end grain will show. If you want the best match, cut face grain plugs froma board in a closet. You can buy plug cutters at most big box stores, or online at Lee Valley Hardware or Woodworkers Supply. Try to cut the plug from similar grain. The holes in the closet can be patched with plugs cut from a piece of oak board from your scrap pile.

You might consider filing a claim against the renters insurance company, and having a professional flooring contractor make the rerpairs.
