So I made a stupid rookie DIY mistake. I cut the holes for the HVAC registers too big. Most just need about a quarter inch more to cover the cut. if I put it in the exact right spot most will cover properly. One of them needs probably a half inch all around.
Does anyone know of a place where I can get registers that have a bigger lip to cover the cuts? Very few say exactly how big the lip is. Or a suggestion for a different way to deal with this?

You may be able to find some closed cell foam backer rod the same thickness as your flooring. Cut it and glue it in so the heater vent is centered where you like it.
You can cut it with a sharp utility knife. A shadow around the edge will not be noticed.

Will definitely try that for a couple. Thanks. Unfortunately it’s going to be more than A shadow for some others.
