I have two questions on two subjects, so figured that this place would be the best place to post them..

Was in a local flooring store yesterday here in San Antonio and inquired about a moisture test of the concrete slab. We plan on buying Engineered flooring. Young guy (only one in the store) says 'I've installed many floors and here in S. Texas, you don't really need a moisture test. All of the information I've read on this forum, says that one of the most critical steps before laying a floor over a slab is to get a moisture test. Any truth to this? When laying engineered on concrete does it really depend on whether the floor is above or below grade? If I don't need a moisture test, this may solve a big headache for me.

Second question.... what veneer thickness should I be looking for in engineered flooring to give me the option of later refinishing the floor say once or maybe even twice? My wife was recently up in Canada and found a manufacturer that we can here in the U.S. ..anyone have any experience with Kentwood flooring? Good? Bad? no comment? haha

In the end, I didn't place alot of faith in this young guy. I mentioned floating the floor and he was pretty adamant about glueing the floor down. Since I plan on doing the job myself, I still feel more comfortable in floating the floor.

Sorry if I sound confused, it's because I am. For everytime a person has said to float the floor, someone tells me to glue it.

Please help!

Yes, people who say you do not need to moisture test when the manufacturers of the flooring AND the adhesive manufacturers AND the NWFA say it is imperitive/mandatory for a warranty to test are complete idiots. It's really a no brainer. Cheap insurance if done CORRECTLY. Never had an issue myself when mositure testing.

If you get some high numbers with the CaCl you also do the Rh test as well. This gives you a comprehensive evaluation of your slabs moisture content and MVER. This way you can make a decision on what needs to be done.
