Well, the good news first. The forged check was made good by the bank. They credited my acct back the amount the check was forged for. NO word on the stolen tools. Their gone and the homeowner isn't saying a word. I'm sure he feels it isn't his problem.
Now the bad news. Business is terrible. No calls, nothing. No one is working much and guys are advertising to refinish for $1.80. Around here, that is about half of what was normally charged. Construction has come to a halt. Granted, this is the slower time of year. We'll see if things pick up this spring. Homeowners are not remodeling because housing values have plummeted. People fear losing their jobs as word of massive lay-offs continue. Home Depot is letting thousands go and shutting some stores down. I'm sure Lowe's is in a similar position as are most construction suppliers and distributors. My bro, who handles soft goods and laminates, says the ONLY work he is getting is REO jobs. A few apartments being built. New home construction at a stand still. Offices are sitting vacant and businesses are not opening either, so not much in commercial flooring going on either. I think a majority of us are just hanging around waiting for something to happen. No wonder CA is over 40 billion in the hole and cannot come up with a budget. It's much worse than the dot com bust in 2000. That only affected certain geographical areas around here. But construction accounts for nearly 1/3 of the state's gross income, when you factor in all the support businesses.
