Hi experts,

Below I've attached the layout of my closet. It's 101 inches by 90 inches. The joists run perpedicular to the doorway and there is an air vent to the left of the doorway. I've read I should run the hardwoods (3/4 inch solid oak) perpendicular to the joists however how do I deal with the air vent? This will be my first attempt at installing hardwoods, so that's why I picked a walk-in closet.

Thanks,
Garrett

To be more clear, shoudl I start at the doorway and work towards the back wall? It seems it would be easier to get the hardwood under the doorjam and around the vent at first versus dealing with less room and a narrow piece at the end. Would the potential for the hardwood to be mis-aligned be greater versus starting on the back wall with no variation? or am I over-thinking how difficult it's going to be to work around a door jam and vent at the end?

If you plan on adding rooms later I wouldn't start in the closet unless you have a hankering for t-molds. If you are just doing the closet it really doesnt matter which end but I personally would want the ripped piece (last row) up against the back wall and not the door threshold.
