Hello,

I searched but could not find the answer.

I will be installing my first hardwood floor, 5/8" bamboo, on 3/4" non tongue and groove subfloor, on 16" centers nailed to 2x8's. I will put a underlay of 15/32" plywood on top, and install on top of that.

I was wondering how do I nail/staple the final row or 2 by hand? I know the MIII will not have any room to staple with a wall so close to the last row?

Thanks for clearing up the confusion if anyone can,

Cheers

Seems like I have been reading a rash of problems lately using the big Bostitch gun installing 5/8" bamboo. Posters are reporting tongue splitting and edge damage and or dimpling. The factory footplate will not accommodate 5/8 material without some finagling.

Is that the gun your manufacturer recommends to use?

On end rows blind nail using a finish nailer then face nail or glue down the last row.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks for the input.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does blind nail refer to?

I understand nailing the last board from the top, where nail line would be hidden under baseboard, but not sure about blind nail?

What size nail in a brad nailer?

I purchased to Foot attachment for the MIII Bostitch nailer which is meant to prevent marring the finish of finished wood. If it is splitting, I would imagine you can reduce pressure on the compressor to get around this I would hope.....

I'm pretty sure you need to get the specific foot (boot) from Bostitch for installing 5/8" material. I have not installed any 5/8 yet using that 15 ga. gun. Changing air pressure won't help any if the problem is the boot.

Blind nailing is shooting a fastener into the corner pocket at the top edge of the tongue. Same location a staple or cleat goes but you are using a finish nailer. You may need to use a nail set to flush them. Most manufacturers recommend a 15 ga finish nailer, but I think a 16 ga. would be more than enough for 5/8 bamboozle. You need to ask the people who made it before you take my word for something. :)
