Some termite-damaged 1x6 subloor planks need to be replaced (with 3/4 T&G ply this time), but how do I get to the area underneath the exterior wall parallel to the joists? The bottom plate of the wall is sitting on the subfloor. If I remove the subfloor, isn't that underminig the wall?

Now what? Ever come accross this?

The answer is you do NOT remove the subfloor boards from under those wall plates, unless they're termite damaged. If they are, you'll need to remove them a little at a time while putting back more wood in their place to keep the walls from sagging. But assuming they're not damaged under the walls, simply cut back the 1 x 6's flush to the wall plate then sister on new 2 x 6 blocks/joists alongside the existing rim joists to support the new subflooring. Quite simple actually.

I ran my circular saw as close to the wall as I could, leaving about 1-1/2" of old 1x6 sticking-out--and the wall did not fall!

About 3 boards in one area were termited, so came right out. Two crawl-space vents along the wall had nothting to support the boards, so fell right out.

A new joist on the inboard edge of the mud sill caught the plank stubs on one edge and the new plywood on the other.

My worry was the wall would tetter-totter over the edge of the rim joist, being off-center, but it didn't.

Thanks.
