Looking for your help to remove the problem of a 16 gauge finish nail driven through the tongue which popped up through the floor. I'm a DIY'er installing 5 1/4" prefinished (BR-111) Brazilian cherry. All's well until now. Using a new Duo Fast floor nailer and their 16 guage nails, I was installing the board next to the front door. One nail did a "U turn" and broke through the surface of the plank. A picture of the problem was submitted to be posted in "Pictures For Problem Solutions Go Here" on this site (file name "Nail Problem.jpg"). Called Duo Fast and the tech said the nailer was not qualified for Brazilian cherry. However, the Operating Manual shows that the nailer is supposed to work on Brazilian cherry at 105 PSI. So the tech and I are working on that matter.

So to my problem: How can the protruded nail be removed from the 7' plank which has been 80% fastened? The head of the nail is flush with the tongue (no metal is exposed); the tip of the nail is about 3/4" above the finished surface. Thank you ahead of time for your help.

I would just pull the plank out, before continuing. Even if you pull the fastener, (which 90% of the time it's going to bust, in a wood that dense)...it's going to look ugly.

Exactly!

If it is up under doorjambs, chisel it out.
Sharp chisels are fast at getting boards out where a saw won't work.

Most nailers have problems with braz ch so it is recommended to use cleats as they only have one tine as opposed to two with a staple. We use primatechs only. And yeah just pull the board. It is recommended to pre drill nail holes in that type of wood.
