I used Murphy's Oil Soap on my floor and have a dull residue that I cannot get rid of! I was thinking of vinegar and a buffer - would that work? Any other suggestions that won't harm the finish on my hardwood?

Murphy's Oil Soap.....
OUCH..

the oil reacts with the finish.. there may be nothing that will help.

I suggest u not use anything else on the floor and leave it alone. I would be concerned about ADDING to the build-up on the surface.

Maybe Gary has had experience with the Oil soap and the recommended product;;;;;;; my experience has been to leave it alone and see what time may bring.

Continued cleaning with Bona's wood floor cleaner should eventually clean the Murphy's from the surface, at least well enough to allow the floors to be recoated in the future. They could even use Basic's IFT but that is typically used right before a recoat to clean contaminates off. Murphy's swears it is safe to use to clean floors. Some finish manufacturers agree. Some finish pros agree as well and testify that they successfully recoat over Murphy cleaned floors. I always recommend Bona cleaner for urethane finished floors. Most factory finished floor manufacturers recommend their wood cleaner, which is mostly the same as Bona's, or very similar.

I think a lot depends on the mix of solution to water ratio.

we've seen some damage due to "full Strength" and improper water/chemical ratio..
Many manufacturers state warranty is void with use of "oil cleaners"...

Sometimes the fix is worse than the problem. We see too much improper use of the oil soaps......... "a little in the water is good and more is even better"
