Howdy all. I have installed some drop-dead gorgeous American Cherry floors in my Upstate NY home over the past 12 months. After 1 year, I am seeing some little scratches and actually "white" scratches here and there. SOme is related to my 90 lb german shephard, some not. I do clip his nails, etc.

This floor is a prefinished solid wood floor (3/4"), with a UV-FINISHING technology. It was explained to me by the factory today how they use UV light to cure it etc. WHen I asked, "well, in a couple of years, is it ok to apply polyurethane.."

SHe said this is not a polyurethane floor and I will never need to refinish it in my lifetime. Well, seeing some scratches after 1 year, that CANT be true.

SO, would polyurathane be used when the time comes years from now? Or something else? I dont know if my floor is aluminum oxide or acrylic, only that UV is deifnitely ised to cure the finish.

Help me out here. Im a bit wierded out by the sales people telling me that I will never need tro refinish teh floor. Thats just bunk.

 Yea, right! UV cured factory finished floors have been around for decades, before the advent of enhanced poly floors (ceramic, aluminum oxide, titanium, etc.) While the UV cured floors are tough, they are certainly not scratch proof. I recommend hiring an experienced, licensed pro finisher with sterling references to recoat the floors with BONA Traffic or similar. Recoats can be done but an amatuer or DIYer could ruin that floor. Best to leave recoats of newer factory finished floors to the pros.
