I'm installing a floating floor and have to glue the tongue and groove joints. How much glue should I be using in the groove? The instructions on the bottle say you should get about 125 sq. ft. per bottle. I laid down 85 sq.ft. and used a bottle and a half. Am I using to much glue?

Probably. Doesn't the flooring come with instructions on how to apply the glue to the T&G's? It should. Look for it.

There should be an applicator tip, that fits into the groove, unless your making due with an aftermarket adhesive.

I have some tips from the old glue together Mannington laminate that work great for T&G gluing.

Doing the math, it seems like you are using twice as much glue as required. Cut the tip in the top of the next bottle closer to the end to reduce the flow rate. Too much of that glue is worse than not enough.
If the floor has a composite centre core, excess glue could cause it to expand leaving you with swollen edges along every board, that wont return to flatness.

Yea I read the instructions, they are very vague. All it says is to run a continuous bead of adhesive along the grooves. And the tip of the adhesive bottle is pre cut to a specific size. So far no signs of problems with what may be using to much glue. How can they say you will get 125 sq ft of flooring laid without knowing the width of the planks? By the way the planks are 5" in width.

That 125' figure is way off when using a continuous bead.

I thought so, it's not like glue is oozing out all over the place when we slide the flooring in place. In fact most times it little or none now that we've got the hang of it. Thanks for the info
