Hi - I'm a newbee and I finished laying down satin oil-based polyurethane over over stain on an oak floor about a week ago. The sheen appears to be slightly changing over the last few days, and I'm wondering if it takes a while to completely cure.

I applied two hot coats, sanded the second coat with 220 grit on a buffer and used a wool pad on the final coat. When I laid down the final coat I was extra cautious about stirring the poly, but it lookes like a couple small areas (2-3 square inches) were missed. Can the final coat be buffed to address these areas, or do I need to sand and coat the entire floor again? This is and area of 650 sq feet.

Thanks for your time.

Jeff

You should be able to go in carefully and coat that missed spot. Put it on thin and feather it out and it should blend in. It takes waterborne a full 7 days to cure and oil can take 30 days to cure.

Any tips on how to blend it in? I've had success using microfiber on smaller projects. Should I sand the area for I put it on?

I will tape off the board at the seams. Hit it with a maroon pad then coat with a foam brush. then pull the tape while its still wet.
