How long does a glue down floor last?, specifically an engineered hardwood floor glued down onto a concreate slab

The reason I ask is because I have been getting a few quotes on the 600sq ft project I'm working on, and may decide not to do the work my self, but one guy who came immediatley tried to sell me on the idea that a glued down floor will only last 5-10 years and he has a better solution...

he wants to nail down a 5/8 plywood subfloor then nail red oak to it, then sand, stain and seal etc, and then said it would forever

he was quotating $8/sq ft for his process

personally I prefer the factory finish of the brazzilian cherry that I was thinking of using as it seems like it will be a much better finish and much harder

any comments?

How long? Depends on the care and your expectations. For some people it may be 5-10 years while others over 20 years. Gary and some of the others may be able to provide more insight on longevity being in the business longer than I.

Some links to look at...

There are engineered wood floors produced today, that have as much sandable surface as a solid wood board(you can only sand to the tongue)

Checkout:
Owens
Real Wood and there are a couple of others with thick wear layers.

when I was asking how long it lasts I was more concerned about the floor staying glued down as opposed to the floor wearing out

The bond of urethane adhesive will last far beyond your lifetime.
