If you're sure you'll be out of square to the point where you're install will look "bad" then you don't have much choice besides tapering a row like you said.
I might recommend snapping a chalk line that is parallel to something in the house that you want to be straight with and then work up to it. As you approach that line, you'll be able to measure from your existing row and figure out your taper from those measurements.
If you plane or trim the groove side of your boards, you'll need to re cut the groove so that the tongue behind it will go all the way in. Most flooring supply stores carry that type of router bit or get one from a hardware store.
The only thing I would be careful of is rip cutting the 1/4" difference out of only 1 row. I wouldn't want to see a obviously tapered row on an install so I might be inclined to create the taper with two rows depending on his everything happens to look. Hope that helps.
