Hi All,

I recently sanded the wood floors on a small bungalow I am refinishing. After sanding I made the mistake of washing the unfinished wood with water. Once I completed the staining I have noticed that the areas that were washed are much rougher than other spots on the floor, and I can see clear lines where the mop was stopped. Also, I can easily tell where the floor goes from smooth to rough. I think that once I washed these areas the grain in the wood flooring raised. Would a light finish sand with an 80 the 120 grit fix this issue or would I have to re-sand and re-stain the entire floor?

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!

If you would like to have the floor look the best you need to re-sand. Waiting till the stain has dried is too long to try to fix it. You could scrape where the edges are darker and then try to blend at the edge of the roughness, but the whole area needs to be sanded with 80 by hand and then re-stained, after scraping. You will almost need to go to bare wood with the scraper.
