We are refinishing our own red oak hardwood floors. They have been sanded down and are ready to stain. We are using a general finishes oil based gel stain. We have about 800 square feet of flooring to stain. We are looking for advice at how to apply this stain? Can we apply like usual oil-based stain? Can we use a roller or pad? Any tips would be appreciated! Thank you!

The usual method that guarantees the best results is to apply in 2-3 foot strips.
Then wipe off any extra. This will allow the person applicating to get a good look.
Edger scratches or other marks can be fixed before continuing with a scraper and sandpaper before the stain gets dry. Wear keep pads since you will be on your knees.

You can apply gel stain using foam brush, bristle brush, or a cotton rag. A good cotton rag seems to work the best most of the time. Gel stain doesn't soak into the wood as much as a traditional stain does
