I am installing 3/4 hardwood over concrete, so with my plywood subfloor, the height of my floor is a minor problem at my entryways. Interior doors were not a problem to shave w/tablesaw, but I'm wondering what the pros do to shave exterior doors that have the metal case over the wood and foam. I have three doors that rub the weather stripping slightly on the floor, and I can't fit a rug under them. I don't want to leave them like this, but I also don't relish the idea of reframing each door way. Is there an easier fix? Can I shave those doors, even though they are the metal kind? Will my table saw and a sacrificial blade do it?

Reading the first two sentences I thought of the solution, but now learning the floor has been installed...I don't know. Maybe a thinner weather strip?

I recall doing a condo project where we had to raise the substrate to install some cork as a sound proofer. This caused havoc with the metal exterior doors. We ended up cutting the bottoms off the doors with skill saws and wasted quite a few blades in the process. You could see if a different type of weather strip would work. It still needs to seal to the exterior threshold. So if you get a thinner door bottom, you'll probably need a taller threshold.

I'm getting ready to install 3/4 over 3/4 plywood and will have a problem with one exterior door. What are some ideas for those of us who have not installed the floor yet.

Thanks,
Stan.

You can cut the door to accept the new floor & replace the thresholds At the bottom.TAPE THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR BEFORE CUTTING. Use a fine blade for a skill saw (use a carbide blade). Hope this helps. Cheers

Carbide fine tooth for a Aluminum Door
120 tooth Tungsten harden steel for a steel door.
Google Kett they carry them . Be careful of the arbor size .

You are going to need to "boost" the sill to accomidate the height difference then you can cut the door and add the new weather strip that will sit on top of the sill. hope this helps

Ants, why are you posting to a thread thats 2 years old? Even I missed that one but if push comes to shove I would simply grind down the bottom of the door to allow a thinner weather strip. You do not want to cut steel clad doors.
