I have done several HW Floors on a subfloor but this project is different
and I am wondering if what I want to do is "acceptable"

This is in a two floor log home and the first floor FLOOR is also the
second floor CEILING, it is 1.5" pine Tongue and Groove and it runs
East to West. Can I install 2.25" pre finished Hickory hard wood
directly on this with first adding a layer of Pergo GOLD Premium 3mm
Flooring Underlayment (for moisture and sound).
Of course laying it perpendicular, North to South to the existing flooring?

Also considering 5" Engineered Hickory, opinions?

Could not find a way to upload pics, but I think you get the point?

Thanks, Bill

The 3mm underlayment is for a floating floor. It is not recommended to install floating floors that are narrower than 5 inches. If you nail the floor down you will be transmitting sound through the fasteners, so it defeats the purpose, The 3mm underlayment is for a floating floor. If you are fastening the floor down then use aqua bar building paper. An engineered floor over the 3mm underlayment where the floor floats over the sub-floor will help with the sound control. The tough part of a floating floor installation is to be sure to get the sub-floor flat to within the manufacturers tolerance.

I would install new plywood sub floor over the "ceiling floor" with cork under it for sound suppression, then you can run it any which way.
