I left this on the General board also, but so far have received no response. Sorry for the duplication.

I am not a pro, but have laid (all stapled) about 3000 feet (finished and unfinished) over a couple years to help my son in law in two different houses.

I am perplexed. My wife fell in love with bamboo. Picked up some bamboo T&G flooring -- all the same size (3-5/8" by 36" by 5/8") and my wife says "herrinbone pattern would look cool". Well, I started to lay it out and it appears that I can't do it without a bunch of trimming, grooving and splining.

What am I doing wrong or are there "left hand" and "right hand" cuts in batches for herringbone????

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Ya Strick, either you need boards that have a groove at both ends, or you need material that is milled "lefts and rights". That is, half the material has the end tongue on the left end, and half has the tongue on the right end.

the few herringbone floors I have anything to do with have been double end grooved nad you just spline it where its needed. typically the width has to be divisable by the length for the pattern to work out.

Remember when Bruce first came out with an engineered herringbone, I think they called it Herringblock. But it was a deep v-groove, with no t&g,( couldn't see overwood with that monster "v-groove" ).
