As you can see I have a problem with knowing how to put the stairnose on the top step and make that small part next to it not have the rough edge of the bamboo flooring show. So I need to know how to frame it in so it looks nice. Thanks..

Without actually being there I would say miter the end on a 45 and butt the smaller piece of nosing to the drywall. The bottom of the nosing will probably interfere with the actual stringer and it may have to be notched. You could also extend the stringer so it would cover the raw edge of the smaller piece or place a return on it.

Once the nosing is set run the flooring off of it.

Ken,
I am fairly new at this hardwood game. I did install a bedroom and did a pretty good job but I am not sure about the "terms in the biz". What exactly is a stringer and I need you to be a little more specific on what I should do (I need the book Hardwood Installing for Dummies) so that I don't mess up.

Thanks again so much for your invaluable advice.

Ken,
Figured it out! The stringer is the white piece that runs up the side of the staircase!! What exactly is a return? Thanks

This is a similar situation. You return the stairnose back to the wall with a 45 miter cut. See how it's down here.

Thanks Gary for the great picture. I have been reading and reading on this site and have learned more about floors than I ever thought I could. I think I have finally got it and thanks again.
