First off, thanks for this board and all the contributors. Here is my situation. I am taking up a ceramic floor in my kitchen. Total size of 12 x22 and replacing it with solid hardwood. I have 3/4 plywood subfloor on 16" centers with 3/4 plywood underlayment. My base cabinets are sitting on the underlayment with the tile cut to the base. I originally thought I may be able to save the underlayment until I got started. With thinset remains and pieces of wood chunks coming up I quickly realised it would not be worth my time trying to make it usable by patching and sanding. So now I am going to take up the underlayment either completely get a toe kick saw and cut along the cabinets. The flooring manufacturer (Somerset) says minimum of 5/8 subfloor. I thought I would lay down at least 1/4" underlayment. So now I ask, should I add the underlayment? Should I use the toe kick saw and save the aggravation of pulling out all my base cabinets or should I yank it all and lay the hardwood under everything? If I pull the 3/4 underlayment it also gets me even to the carpet when i am finished. Sorry for the novel
