We ordered 1100 sq ft of the Valenza Kempas solid to be installed in our house before Thanksgiving. There was a delay in getting the wood so it was installed the 1st week of December. Or at least they started the job. After laying 2 1/2 rooms we found the floor had some splintered edges & nicks. The installer said the flooring was not lining up right when he was installing it. It was like it was milled a bit off on 1 end or the other (along the tongue or groove). He stopped the work & showed us boards fresh from the box that didn't match up. The local floor company came out & then called the local Hartco sales rep. This guy claimed it was installer error. So the flooring guys ripped up the "defective" floor & ordered new wood. Well, it took a month for that to come but it got here 2 weeks ago. Guess what??? A new set of installers is having the same issue with the new wood. It doesn't line up & is starting to have gaps that are not normal.
We had another Hartco rep (above the level of the local sales rep) come out yesterday. He admitted there was an issue with the milling of the floor but offered no solutions except to tell us we will probably have to go with a different floor. He was supposed to be able to make a decision but now claims it will be 2 weeks before he hears back from his report. In the meantime we have had no floor since Hurricane Katrina but have been dealing with this mess since December. If they won't honor this problem then I have big doubts about what would happen with any other issue.
This is not our 1st Hartco floor. We had Pattern Plus in another house & loved it but it was not a naildown solid product.
Our local flooring place is suggesting we go with UA Santos Mahogany stapled down but that means another wait. What would you suggest & is it fair to expect Hartco to do something for all the trouble we've had? They have already laid 1 partial floor & torn it up & looks like we are going to have that happen again.
