We are adding a large rec room and are planning to have a hardwood floor. I love the oak floor in our entry but now that we have a very active family of teens plus a lab who thinks he is a family member (O.K. he is) I need blunt, objective guidance as to which hardwood, finish and color will look great (or nearly) in fiveyears. I don't want to regret the decision or be anxious over our kids rough and tough playmates who visit. We prefer the lighter, more golden hardwoods but I've been told the darker, richer woods and stains show scratches less. Also, I believe wood with various grain lines show scratch lines less than homogenous wood grains. Is this correct? Is thetre a "middle ground" choice? Also, which brand/line of finishis most resistant to dents and scratches? THANKS!!!
