This is my situation. My son and the new wife are coming for Christmas.
My husband sanded the room they'll be sleeping in a year ago. I mistakenly tried to stain the center of the room and blend it with the finish that had not been sanded. The stain I had picked was darker that what was left on the sides of the room. I didn't understand that he only planned on placing polyurethane over it til whenever. What can I do to take up the stain that I already put down. The wood is what was typically put down in houses back in the 60s.

If it is oil based stain, you can try wiping with paint thinner/mineral spirits. Otherwise all you can really do is sand it down ot bare wood again
