Great forum. It has been very useful getting familiar with hardwood floors.

I would greatly appreciate some feedback. I recently had 800sf of new cumaru professionally installed. After the final coat of Bona Traffic finish was applied, I noticed a lot streaking in the finish, I would say maybe 30% of the floor has streaking in the finish. It is quite obvious to see the streaking just standing in the room in normal and evven low light. The streaking appears to be from the applicator pad. Is this normal? Will it disappear? Should the installed fix this?

The installer said it will go away as the floor cures. It has now been 7 days, and the streaks have NOT gone away, nor have changed in appearance from day one. Bona Traffic product specs say the floor is 100% cured in 7 days.

I also noticed bubbles and hairs in the finish here and there, and to me it seems a little excessive, but the installer said it will "walk off" and is normal. Is this normal or this an attention to detail issue?

Installation details are as follows:
Wood aclimated in house for 4-5 days before being nailed down Then the boards sat unfinished 2 weeks before applying 2 coats Pallmann Allbase sealer, and 1 coat Bona Traffic finish. Then final Bona Traffic finish was applied an additional 8 weeks later.

I would grealy appreciate your feedback.

Regards.

Waited 1 month for 2nd coat of Bona Traffic

Streaks are not normal and they will not go away. If the streaks were in the sealer then they probably would not come out without resanding the floor. If they are in the last finish coat done then the floor could probably be buffed and recoated.

Agreed.Streaks are not normal and they will not go away. Waterbase finishes, being hard to work with will streak if not applied perfectly. Perhaps your finisher left puddles and then tried to fix them as the finish was setting up. THings like that can cause streaking or sometimes if the finish is laid on too thin.

Thank you both Advanced Hardwood Floors and RhodesHardwood for your feedback. Is it reasonable to expect the installer to come back buff and recoat the floor to eliminate the steaks at no additional charge?

Yes .I had a floor over the summer where the finish pooled because of how crooked the house's foundation was . The floor had a big pitch to it from the back of the house to the front of the house. So at my own expense , I went back and touched up the heavy area. If I left streaks, that would be even more of a reason to do it for free.

In other words, it isn't your responsibility to train your floor guys on how to apply finish. They should know what to do.As far as how much touch up is needed, I can't say. You normally wont have ot re coat an entire floor to touch up streaks unless there are an abundance of them.
