Here's the problem........we skipped a not-so-small step while applying the stain to our floor. We did NOT wipe off the excess stain as we went.(Guess I should have read those directions more closely). So, now it's almost 24 hours later and the stain is no where near dry. I have the windows open and a couple of fans running to help speed up the process, but want to know what else, if anything, I should be doing.

I've read that wiping up the floor with a rag and mineral spirits will help but I'm not sure if that will take off all the stain?

Any imput/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

If it looks ok to you, then wait a couple of more days for it to dry before attempting to coat it. The downside to coating over that heavily applied stain is the coating (poly) may not stick well. Your only other option is to resand the floors.

If the stain is nowhere near dry you can sometimes apply more stain and reactivate the partially dry stain and wipe it off. It may not always work but it is worth a try.
We just helped a guy with the same problem. I poured more stain on and buffed it with a white pad. The stain did reactivate and we were able to wipe it off. It saved the guy from having to resand.
The stain was Minwax, it is very thin and wet so that could have helped.
