Hi all! Hope you can help. I am about to have installed Engineered Hardwood throughout th eupstairs of my house. I live in Bermuda where it is humid but we do have a/c throughout.

The subfloors are all conrete slab and level.

I am uncertain whether to have the floors glued down or floated. The subcontractor intends to float but I have read pros and cons to both.

Also, the entire flooring upstairs will be the same flooring but the subcontractor suggests breaking each room and putting down threshold strips.

I like the idea of having no threshold and a continuous floor but I'm unsure of the problems which may be associated... (especially depending on if I float or glue the floor). I know they mentioned I would be "safer" to break up the rooms... presumably due to swelling of the wood???

Please advise. Thank-you.

I've done floaters without transition strips in the doorways, I hate the way they look and so do most people. Justs takes more time to undercut the doorcasings deeper than usual and leave more expansion space oround the perimeter, undercust sheetrock if you have a thin baseboard or add shoe.

Gluedowns don't need transitions in dooorways at any rate. Some people don't like the hollow sound of floaters and glue with a trowel on vapor retarder can get expensive
