Hello All,

I'm about to install 3/8" engineered flooring throughout the main areas of my home. I have three spots where the wood floor will transition to tile. I took a measurement from the subfloor to the tile and noticed that there is a 1/8" difference in height. (The wood floor would be 1/8" lower than tile). I haven't accounted for the 15lb felt paper but that should be minimal. Is this height difference within variance to use a T-molding?

Any other recommendations on how to deal wit this?

BTW, floor will be stapled down to plywood subfloor.

Thanks,

Phillip

Actually I prefer the wood to be lower than the tile, less possibility of splintering the bare feet. But you have to make sure the edges are sanded or factory edges. You could also shim it up.

So would a T-molding work in this situation? Or would caulking suffice between the wood and tile? I was going to start at the opposite wall, however I could always start next to the tile to ensure I have all factory edges.

Thanks for your suggestions, I appreciate it.

You could use a t-molding but it wouldn't sit properly, a t is used when the 2 floors are even. Use a square nose or end molding and then grout between the molding and the tile.

Here's some pics to give you some ideas of what might work for you .Sometimes when I get stuck. I draw up what I want and have a mill or wood working shop make it for me .

Maybe a baby reducer can work for you in this application.

IMO a T-moulding will work fine. Just play with the location, so it sets nice. It's rare occasion that you have 2 surfaces meeting that are the same height. An 1/8" is nothing for a t-moulding. You get in trouble with t-mouldings when the difference is drastic. If the 1/8" bothers you...shim it up, and feather it out.
