I am trying to install a wood floor on a raised concrete slab that has a landing the leads to my carpeted steps. The landing has an additional step down to the existing hardwood flooring. It appears that the riser leading to the lower step has a 2x6 nailed to the concrete to complete the carpet installation. The lower step appears to be a complete concrete pour. The nose is curved.
What should I do? I originally thought I would attach wallboard as the riser for the steps (approximately 10 feet long on one side and 4 feet on another)
My concerns are the durability of wallboard where the natural tendancy is to bump that area with your shoes as you go up the landing. I also am not sure how to adhere the wallboard to the concrete (glue?).
The exisiting 2x6 is not even with the rest of the concrete slab. Should I replace that and even it with the concrete in the process?
thanks for any help.
