 Post subject: Hardwood under old carpet

How do i remove old(30 years), hard(like cement) carpet pad without damaging the hardwood? The floor looks to be in very good condition except where the pad is stuck to the floor.

I did some searches in the archives here but didn't find many good answers to your question. View the one one below:

For me... I do it the old fashioned way as indicates in the last post of this thread: Wide putty knife, elbow grease, followed by complete sanding.

A Midwest style, standup, sidewalk ice scraper may help.... something you may put a bit of "oomph" behind. Watch that you don't gouge the hardwood.

Thanks Dave thats what I ended up doing (ice scraper, putty knife, a sore back, and blisters) I never thought sanding would be the easy part.Did I hear someone say CARPET
