Hey all,

I'm having carpet ripped out off my steps, and plan in installling wood. In the main living room, I currently have oak dark walnut stained floors. Up 5 steps is my kitchen, with a 16x16 ceramic tile.

I had a thought of bringing both floors together by having those 5 steps have a wood base, matching the color of the living room floor, and use the extra tile I have from the kitchen flooring and have that as a riser. One contractor said it'd look great, another said it was really odd and a bad decision.

Whattya think?? Ever seen it done??

Thanks!

It will look excellent. Triangles across the riser will even pop more.

Triangles? So run the tile at an angle up the rise as opposed to vertically up and down?

Thanks for confirming, I think the floor contractor who told me that it wouldn't look good said so cause he didn't know how to install it and wanted the business.
