I got a shipping quote from a company on brazilian cherry. I really liked the product and was quite impressed with it. It's enginereed brazilian at about 4.50 SF. But it ended up being almost 1.00 SF just to ship it. 750 square feet was around $750, and 1000 square feet was $830. Does that seem really high to you?

The folks I'm talking about on the brazillian cherry that seem high on shipping costs said it didn't matter whether it came to your house or the terminal, that's it costs the same. I really like the quality of their flooring, it just seems they shipping is going to be a deal breaker.

Maybe some companies make a bit of back end profit on shipping, but their product is a little less. I guees it might all work out being the same in the end.

I bought 600 sq feet of BR111 Brazilian Cherry engineered flooring with pad, glue and threshold pieces from this web site earlier this year and the shipping cost was around $275 shipped to and placed in my garage by the shipper. I felt that price was reasonable considering I didn't have to pay 7% sales tax which comes out to about the same. Just my 2 cents.

I paid $600 to ship a 1000 ft of brazilian walnut, which was about 4000 lbs. Unloading it really sucked :( Your quote does not sound too bad, but I remember my supplier mentioning that they don't get a cut of the shipping (I bet most do).

$ 600 for 4,000 pounds is very reasonable if it's travelling a few hundred miles. Going across country the amount would double. I don't think anyone in this business actually makes money on freight. Most lose money.

Ken, I work with a freight broker that will smoke that kind of pricing. By half maybe? Of course, it depends on the "lane." Give me a ring at the mill this week.
