Hi, I'm going to start my second hardwood floor project, the question I have is this one is in a kitchen and there's linoleum down now do I first have to remove it and do I have to remove the luewon also(I don't know how to spell it). There's 3/4 ply sub floor in the house.
Thanks for your help Ron

If the "lino" ( probably vinyl ) is glued down to luan underlayment, and the luan is 1/4" thick, many installers will go over it, knowing that 2" fasteners will penetrate and grab into the plywood subfloor. That said, the NWFA considers luan a poor material as it is not really plywood. And they recommended removing it instead of installing over it. So would I.

Usually linoleum is very thin and you can just install floor right over it, sometimes lionleum is installed over a 1/4 plywood , if this is the case you have to remove the linoleum and plywood. This is most of the times the case when the lino is installed over the wooden subfloor , that 1/4 plywood is just the smooth base for the lino.
