2 months ago I had a flood(aquarium sprung a leak) damage my downstairs flooring while I was on vacation. It was glued to slab engineered hardwood. Insureance paid for damage mitigation with dehumidifiers and anti mold spray, then asked the wife and I to pick a new flooring since they couldn't match what we had. We picked BR-111 Tigerwood I cut a check for the difference and scheduled install. I explecitly told both contractors I expect quality and am in NO rush. The main contractor who was tasked with everything but the floors(drywall, cabinets, granite, paint, trim, electric) has done a decent job, with only a few very small errors all of which were easily correctable and taken care of in a prompt and curtious fashon. The flooring contractor has installed synthetic wood transitions without asking if it was ok after we had asked for and they agreed to order matching tigerwood, NBD we'll have them redo the transitions. Fast forward to yesterday, the cleanup crew from the contractors finally peels up the "protective" paper that has been on the majority of our floors for over a month. . .wife sees them, chaos ensues.

This is what we saw in the first hour of enjoyment of our new floors, We love the tigerwood, and all of it's color variation, the builder seems confused as to why we're unhappy and thinks it's the wood and it's color, but IMO it looks fine other than the sloppy installation. the example pictures are not the only problems just a small sample of the condition our new floors were presented to us in. I'm looking for any advise as far as repairing the damage or fixing the install. From my research on here it looks as several of these issues can only be fixed by reinstalling. :(

Thanks in advance for your time and advise,

Erik

Yea those scratches and marring that go across the planks most likely are after the fact. I hate it when builders rush a job and say...."I'll protect it with paper". Paper does not do jack to protect a floor.

To me, the size of those gaps ,( and it doesnt look like milling), not to mention the off color filler, is unacceptable. That 2-3 inch step pattern makes me cringe.

That denting is a matter of board replacement.
If your willing to accept the gaps...They should be able to come up with a better filler match.

I like your phrases and faces on the blue tape.

Thanks for the input guys, here's an update. . .

Today we went from the synthetic transitions which matched ok but were not matching tigerwood as I was told they would be.

To the what looks to be oak stained with a hint of red, closer on the "real wood" front not so much on being tigerwood or on the color front. :(

Image

Also at the fireplace I now have a rough cut edge about 1/4" high on the backside of the transition.

They also started to fill some of the gaps, until they were told there would be no payment until the gaps were gone. So it looks like the insurance company will be forcing them to replace about half the floor in 3 rooms including the step pattern, which is good except it looks like I won't have my kitchen back 'till after the holidays. :(

Sorry your going through this. Those transitions look rediculous. They need to pony up and bring in the right Tigerwood transitions from BR111.

Those tiger wood transitions can take forevah to come in. I think they wit till someone orders it to mill some,,,,special order transitions. Bet they were back ordered for weeks ands they thought they would get away with laminate transitions ha ha. That don't work.

I'll bet BR111 has plenty and the dealer is cheaping out, (those transitions are expensive). Their Tigerwood is popular. Same stuff as LL Bellawood Koa, only not as shiney, and a whole lot better milling.

Yea, 1 week they can have 20, next week backordered. Thankful to say, I havent been over there in a long time.

Bellawood's finish is too shiney though for BR111.

Typical fast paced builder work. 1st, they got the cheapest guys they can find, regardless if they have a clue.
Instead of the flooring, be it carpet wood or tiles, the last thing put into the home. It is far from it. Trades all over the flooring.

I have seen wood floors look years old and carpet already matted down in the traffic areas, because of those fast paced builders.

This is exactly why hardwood/engineered floors should be done only by someone who specializes in them. The stair stepping is unacceptable. I think I learned not to do that on day 1 of doing hardwood floors, literally. The gaps could be the milling or from not using straps to hold it together, until it set up.

Leaking aquariums can make a mess. I had some similar experience in the past, big mess.
I advise in seeking some professional help to fix and reinstall the damaged floors.
