Hi, My name is Janar, I'm the owner of Green Step Flooring, Inc. in Cary, NC. I'm new to the site and trying to get some questions answered.
Lately I have noticed major increase in oak flooring price. Currently paying like $2.70 per sf for red oak select 2 1/4.
Is this normal? Where you guys think it caps?

Whenever the supply demand falls back to normal. Didn't this same thing happen back in the early 70's and hurt sales of hardwood for years? Of course then carpet became the rage. I think I read Armstrong has increased prices twice this year by nearly 10% combined. That's small by unfinished comparison though.

Kevin?

Hey Ken, you mis-read that article. Armstrong has had two 20% increases in the last few months.
Also, part of the problem is exactly as you suggest: supply and demand issues. The logging industry was shut down over the last couple of years due to the lack of demand in our industry, compared to the on the ground supply of logs and timber. Now that felled lumber supplies have been used up, they actually want to make a profit for their labours (go figure) so are demanding much higher prices for the logs thus forcing finished product prices increasingly upward.
