Hi all

I really need some help. I have a solid hardwood floor to carpet transition. I am using a mullican variable threshold. Some call it a baby threshold.

When the threshold is placed upon the hardwood floor there is a gap between the threshold and the sub floor.

a) What is the gap for and should I do anything with that gap? Does the carpet or the pad go underneath the threshold?

b) How does the threshold get fastened? Does one nail through the top into the hardwood? Or, does it get screwed into place?

Cut a piece of wood to fill the gap between the bottom leg of the threshold and the subfloor and nail the threshold to the subfloor through this area. Do not nail the threshold to the hardwood floor.....hardwood floor should be allowed to move under the threshold i.e expansion gap. Depending on the relative height of the hardwood floor and carpet a baby threshold may not be the best transition option.
