We have a large dog and three kids (in addition to my heavy feet) and I was thinking perhaps the rough look of solid hand scraped flooring might help hide the inevitable scratches and dings.

Do you think this style of floor will help hold up better than something smooth and shiny in nature?

Finally, how does Virginia Mill Works compare to the others?

What are some of the other ones worth investigating?

How much more in price might they be and are they worth the extra money for a rough looking floor board?

Thanks for your help.

-John

I was also wondering if this style of flooring would be difficult to refinish or sand it in the future?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I say for you, no to hand scraped but yes to distressed. The high ridges on handscraped wear first. Virginia Mill Works is LL flooring right?

Yes.

Any specific brands of distressed flooring would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well, Ken has a list on his other site, not sure why he lists LL before Homerwood. But if your going to invest a large chunk of change on hardwood flooring that is expected to last a lifet time I would buy Homerwood ifin it were in my budget.

If not then take a gander at his list.

I also agree that the handscraped would not be the greatest choice. I also agree with the fact that Homerwood is some very nice stuff. I have also found that Chelsea Plank flooring is pretty nice stuff and is cheaper.
