I have a situation similar to this one:

http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... ansion+gap

EXCEPT my stair railing is about 15 feet in lenth and that room is about 15 feet wide. So, it's a 15 x 15 room with walls on three sides and railing on the fourth. It's also on the second floor, looking down into the living room. The flooring runs parallel with the railing. The installer butted the groove side of the floor tight with the railing without leaving a gap. There is a 3/4 " gap on the other side of the room.

It's making me a bit nervous and so I thought I'd cut a gap using the crain tool and put a quarter round to cover it. However, I've also read that the crain tool is a bit dangerous to use, especially for a DIYer, so finally, my question is can this sort of cut be done with some kind of hand saw?

Thanks,
George

Just leave it alone. There isn't a problem now is there? If not, then " Don't worry, Be happy!" :D

Thanks Gary, that's the answer I was secretly hoping to hear. No, there's no problem now but it's only been in for about 6 months.
